It’s good to see action finally being taken on the Central Warehouse, a structure that’s been a blight on the urban landscape of Albany as long as I’ve been in the area (20+ years).

Unfortunately, it looks like it’s going to be quite a while before the demolition is actually done. The fact that this is the outcome after so many years of legal battles and emergency protective measures (like the $450,000 the City of Albany spent just this year installing protective netting) is an indictment of our whole system for developing and maintaining real estate, from the regulators to the politicians to the legal system to the various wealthy property owners and developers who have owned the building over the years.
