Distancing from Meta

I wrote previously about my approach to using Meta platforms (Instagram and Facebook, specifically). A recent article by the excellent team at 404 Media has given me reason to re-think my position. (I highly recommend the article. It’s only slightly technical–feel free to ask me questions about any of it you don’t understand.)

I will discuss more in the coming days as time allows. For now, I will be taking the step of deactivating (but not yet deleting) my Instagram account. You can still follow me in all the usual places:

I’ll note that Signal is the only place I share pictures of my family, and going forward it will also be the only place I share pictures of myself (there may be exceptions for when I attend a public event, for example).
