Cocktail: Unnamed as of yet

I’ve been wanting to try something like this for a few weeks now, and I finally tried. It wasn’t a failure, but I’m not sure it was a winner yet.

I first tried Aquavit a few months back, after a friend gifted us a bottle. As I tend to prefer the savory over the sweet, I enjoyed it a good deal. Around the same time, my wife bought a jar of “Cornichons” (those little pickles that are often served with charcuterie boards).

I like the concept of a dirty martini, but I don’t care for olives. I definitely enjoy a Gibson (essentially a dry martini served with a cocktail onion). So I thought I might try doing something similar combining aquavit and the cornichons.

  • 1 1/2 oz aquavit
  • 1 oz London dry gin
  • 1/2 dry vermouth
  • 1 tsp cornichon brine

Shake with ice and pour into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a cornichon.
