Cocktail: Poet’s Dream

I found this courtesy of Johan, a bartender on Instagram. It’s a martini variant that uses Benedictine. As a dry martini is my favorite drink, and Benedictine is one of my favorite ingredients in whisky drinks, I was excited to give this a try, especially since I missed World Gin Day this past weekend.

  • 2 oz gin
  • 3/4 oz dry vermouth
  • 1/2 oz Benedictine
  • 4 dashes orange bitters

I used a roughly 60/40 split of Sly Fox gin (an excellent locally produced American gin) and Beefeater (a more traditional London Dry), similar to how I’d make an “ordinary” dry martini.

It’s heavier on the vermouth than I would normally use in a martini, and Benedictine is relatively sweet, so I went in expecting a sweeter drink. The flavor was surprising, but not unpleasant. I don’t think this will join my regular rotation (the way the Absinthe Martini has), but it’s great to have another option in my repertoire.

Cheers.
