Bluetooth connections

It would be really helpful if Apple et al provided a way to temporarily disable a Bluetooth connection.

I’m at my mechanic today having my car serviced. I don’t want to turn off Bluetooth on my phone, because I want the connection to my watch and the ability to connect my headphones in a few minutes. But if the car is on, my phone will connect to that, since it will be in range. Calls will go through, music will play, etc. So I had to “forget” the device, meaning I’ll have to re-sync it later, and Honda makes that a real PITA.

A similar problem occurs when my wife and I are both in the car. One of us drives, the other deals with the audio entertainment. But if the driver’s phone is connected to the car, there’s no way to disconnect it without disabling its Bluetooth (or again “forgetting” the device).

Same situation when the family shares a Bluetooth speaker or headphones.

I can’t imagine there’s a technical reason that connection couldn’t be temporarily forgotten or disabled. It would be really helpful.
