I had an expected opportunity to visit a small part of downtown Chicago last week. I was impressed by how quiet it was, even on the afternoon of a work day. The streets were bustling with people, but the traffic was fairly limited (though there were a remarkable number of sirens).
Another thing that really stood out was the architecture of the buildings. I know relatively little about architecture, but the buildings in Chicago (at least in the loop east of the river) all seemed more ornate and elegant–less industrial–than the buildings I’m used to seeing in New York or Boston (the big cities I visit most regularly).
